Q: I have purchased the deal, now how do I sign up?

A: You have three options to sign up:

First, you can always sign up in person at our studio.  We recommend this so you can check out our swag (we're so urban) facilities and meet our totally awesome front desk rep Kasie.

Secondly, LS says for you to call us.  You can, but we still will need to get you to sign a waiver for us, either via mail or the first day of class.

Lastly (and the easiest and best for all parties involved), since you're obviously internet proficient, you can register online at the following secure site:

SECURE ONLINE LIVINGSOCIAL ENROLLMENT (CLICK)

Simply fill in all the required information, and have your LivingSocial voucher number and who it was purchased by to complete the registration.  Agree to the fine print legal stuff (we can take your photo, you won't sue us if you break your leg, yada yada), and we'll email you in the next 24 hours to confirm your enrollment (weekends we might not get back to you until Monday).  That's it!

Please don't fear registering in person with us.  We will NOT upsell you!  You won't leave our studio bound to a contract to dance until 2017 and having signed more papers than applying for a mortgage!

Q: Is $60 really half off?

A: YES! Enrollment at our studio is $60 a month for the first class.  All of our customers pay the same rate.  You are honestly getting 50% off two months (8 weeks) of classes. Want to put us to the test?  Call us or email us, or try to register from our home page as a non-livingsocialite, and you'll see the classes are indeed $120.  We pride ourselves in being fair with every single customer we have... we didn't mark up or double our tuition rates just to offer you half off that!

Q: So what can we expect when it comes to the classes?

A: 8 week sessions are usually pretty big classes (full year classes are usually capped in size).  Each class begins with a simple warmup... stretching, core strength, some cardio to get the blood flowing.  From there students learn/ review basic moves as part of the warmup.  Lastly they'll put all of that together to music.

The teacher may teach different choreography to different songs each class, or build on it over a few weeks.  We'll use current and "old skool" music (but nothing with explicit lyrics!).  Students may be encouraged to work on freestylin' in a cypher (google alert!  basically everyone in a circle and you take turns in the middle dancing however you or your body wants to).

Q: Will my child be able to audition for So You Think You Can Dance or America's Got Talent after the 8 weeks of classes?

A: Well... they could.  But they probably won't end up on the part of the show you want them to be on.  Let's be realistic:  8 weeks isn't a lot to start a professional career.  8 weeks WILL get you so you can move to a beat and be social in an atmosphere that has music and people dancing.  A star you may not be, but you can at least bounce to the beat in time (we hope!).

All those fabulous people you see on tv (and by the way we bring in several of them from Fox's show So You Think You Can Dance) spend hours and hours a day training/dancing. Just because they might say someone hasn't been "classically trained" doesn't mean that they haven't spent 8 hours a day dancing for 8 years.

Dancing is like a lot of things in life... you either have it or you don't.  But a beginner hip hop class will at least let you fake it well enough that nobody will know you have two left feet.

Q:  I've tried calling the studio but I got voicemail!!

A:  Not really a question, but we get where you're coming from.  We're a small local business, and we're pretty much only open in the evenings from 5pm to 9pm.  However, we realize we're going to get lots of exposure and an increase in inquiries thanks to the awesome power of LivingSocial.  We are going to do our best to answer all your calls during the day.  If you leave us a message, Kasie (remember, our awesome front desk rep) will do her best to call you back that evening.

But we're also a pretty tech savvy bunch here at JAMZ.  Your absolute best way to get your questions answered is via email.  We carry around iPhones and all that neat stuff, so we check emails constantly.  Too much in fact. You'll often get a faster response via email (we're talking within a couple of hours if not minutes unless you shoot us one at like 4am) than if you call and leave a message on the voicemail.

So give it a try and email us.

Q:  Why JAMZ?

A:  Check out that list you see on the right side of the page.  We may be a small studio, but we've dumped tons of money into having the best studio around.  We're not your average hair-in-a-bun ballet studio with a 60 year old director (no offense to those studios, we love you!).  We hire only the best available talent in the area.  Some teachers commute over an hour and a half to our studio.

We have only the best facilities as well. All of our floors are hardwood sprung floors (to give you a better idea, they're EXACTLY like the floor the NBA uses!).  This is actually a big deal.  Your kids won't be dancing on some concrete floor with a thin vinyl sheet on top that most studios use.  These floors have some give to them so they cut down on injuries and fatigue (try jumping up and down on your driveway, and then try it on something with some spring to it).

Oh and the lights.  and the sound.  The studio used for these 8 week sessions is in our newest room, opened just over a year ago.  Nearly 1600 square feet of dance floor by itself, it has flashing LED lights with effects that rival most clubs.  really!  The sound system is unmatched.  The latest iMac provides the tunes with the ability to videotape students for playback and immediate corrections.

We definitely have studio swag.

Q: Can you tell me a little bit more about the teacher?

A:  Certainly.

Margareta Chughtai is Culture Shock, Washington, D.C.'s own co-founding executive director and previous artistic director. She has performed and instructed nationally and internationally for the past twelve years and directed for the last six years.

Mrs. Chughtai started dancing with Culture Shock San Diego where she was a core company dancer for over 5 years. After starting as a dancer in California doing shows with Culture Shock for Sea World, Paramount Pictures, and Women's Final Four Basketball Tournaments, she then moved to the east coast where she co-founded Culture Shock D.C.

Margareta studied in many studios such as The Edge Performing Arts Center in Hollywood, CA and The Broadway Dance Center in New York City, NY; she is now an accomplished choreographer, instructor, and director as well who has given workshops in Europe at renowned studios such as Pineapple Studios in London, England and Colombo Dance Factory in Zurich, Switzerland.

Margareta has two young children and loves to work with kids of all ages.

Thank you for taking the time to look into dancing at JAMZ.  We truly appreciate it, even if you don't end up purchasing the 50% off deal this time around.  Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have!
